About Janet's

Janet’s was first opened in 1989 (originally known as Janet’s Handicrafts) by our artist founder who worked out of a small shop space in Apia, Samoa. Today Janet’s is one of the best known and longest serving stores in Samoa specialising in Made in Samoa and Made in the Pacific Products. Janet’s is known for its Pacific Clothing, Fashion, Jewellery, Arts, Crafts and Cultural products.

Our Products

Janet’s is a meeting point for the Old Pacific traditions and the New. A place where Pacific Artistry and imagination is supported and encouraged.

Featured in our collection are Cultural offerings both Traditional and Contemporary.

We pride ourselves on housing exclusive local Pacific brands which were created by our design team and are available only to Janet’s. Our Samoan Made products are designed by Janet’s In-House Team or in partnership with Pacific artists.

We see our role as safeguarding the physical art and cultural knowledge and skill set of our thousands of years old culture. Through offering you our best and most unique Pacific Cultural works– traditional communities and art forms are able to thrive and continue.

Committed to Quality & Environment

We source only the best raw material and our products are made sustainably. We work with artists/designer families who take pride in their works.

The Cradle of Polynesia

Our home is Samoa, the Cradle of Polynesia from which we draw inspiration.

Our Main Store is located in Samoa’s Capital Apia. Samoa has cultural connections with all of Polynesia and the Wider South Pacific Region. We are part of a larger movement which has seen the growing expression of Pacific Creativity.

Our Founder

In the 1980’s, Janet Sablan was a Pacific Cultural Dancer who performed in South Pacific Dancing troupes promoting Pacific Culture around the world. She decided one day to turn her life towards Cultural Art which was her first passion.

Janet wanted to use her creativity to do something different; to combine her love for design with a Pacific look and aesthetic, and to design her own products in partnership with local Samoan and Pacific artists.

More than 30 years later the result is Janet’s,which is a bridge for people to experience Polynesian Fashion, Art and Culture in both the old ways and the new.
